Ahh, the Fourth of July. Time to celebrate our Freedom, relax and spend time with family and friends. Take the Time to reflect as we officially kick off the summer months, family vacations and long weekends.
This year, the 4th of July falls on a Tuesday. Alas, I am by no means a psychic, by I anticipate a lot of "Boss I can't come in today, I'm not feeling well" calls to be made on Monday morning. Thus, many of you will be 'celebrating' the 4th of July on a very long weekend.
So, how will you spend your time over the next few days? Don't answer that, we already know. Accordingly, I give my tips on how to enjoy the Holiday Weekend responsibly and maintain your freedom over the Independence Day Weekend. (see what I did there?)
1. They Really are Out to Get You - Who? The police. DUI Checkpoints, Plain clothes patrol, extra effort to make sure people are safe. Don't be stupid: If you are going to Drink, call an Uber, Lyft, Cab, Designate a Driver. Just don't get behind the wheel thinking you won't get caught. You will.
2. Don't Be Stupid - Seems to be a Running theme here. What is stupid? Simple, Know your limits, don't provide alcohol to someone underage, and use the bathroom indoors. Don't end up with a citation for underage drinking, public urination, disorderly conduct or public intoxication simply because you just didn't follow the rules.
3. Abide by the Code - Be it Bro Code or Girl Code, one rule is universal: Look out for one another. You notice someone reaching their limit, pull them to the side and drop a bug in their ear about "switching to water" or "holding their keys for the night". Don't sit idly while your friend makes a fool of themselves or puts others in danger. Be the Friend that speaks up.
That's it! 3 Simple rules. Read em, memorize them and Pass them on to a friend by posting to social media. Although I would love to hear from you and know how your weekend went,I really don't want you to need me.
