A 55 year old man from Mercer, Pennsylvania has been convicted on charges of child pornography - less than a week after his trial began.
The man, who was accused of producing sexually explicit photographs and video recordings of girls four girls aged 11 and 12, was convicted last week on six counts of producing child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. He had been charged of producing the videos in 2011, after having enticed the girls into performing sexually suggestive poses and dances. During the 3 day trial jurors heard testimony against the defendant, and even witnessed at least one of the recordings that he was eventually convicted of producing. After just 10 hours deliberations jurors handed down the guilty verdict.
The defendant, who remained jailed for the entire duration of the judicial process, is facing mandatory minimums on many of the charges. This means that the judge in the case, U.S. District Judge has less discretion relating to the sentencing than he otherwise would. In this case the defendant faces between 15 and 90 years in prison. The ultimate sentence will depend on if he has to serve his sentences consecutively, meaning back-to-back, or concurrently, meaning at the same time.
