A client contacted our office from Atlanta, Georgia. The client had moved to Atlanta Georgia in early 2013 from her hometown in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
In late 2012, the client was stopped while leaving a store in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania and accused of shoplifting a small item from the store. The store officials took down the client's information and charged her with the summary offense of retail theft by summons to her home address in Bethel Park.
However, before the client completed her change of address from Bethel Park to Atlanta, officials mailed the summons to her old address and the summons was lost in the mail. The Court issued a bench warrant for the client after the 10 day response period had lapsed.
The client contact our firm and we worked to immediately have thebench warrant lifted and negotiated to have the client complete a pre-trial diversion program and have all charges dismissed without repeat returns to the city.
This resolution was only possible because the client contacted our office immediately upon notification of the bench warrant and the willingness of the client to complete all pre-trial diversion steps quickly.
