Philadelphia Man Convicted of Public Drunkenness, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct

|

A Philadelphia man was arrested on February 4, 2013 after a scuffle with police. As a result of the incident the man was charged on various counts, including resisting arrest, public drunkenness, and disorderly conduct. The man was convicted of all counts in January 2014.

Philadelphia police were dispatched to Goodfellas bar on N. Pennsylvania Avenue on February 4, 2013 – with reports that a large fight was underway between black and white patrons. Police said they saw the accused peeking out of the bar's window after arriving on the scene. When they approached the man he told them that he was about to go home, saying that he lived in the area. The man then left the bar. After going around the block, police then encountered the same man near the side of the bar's entrance upon returning.

Upon seeing the man again, police asked him for identification. The man, who was intoxicated at the time, refused to provide identification and accused the police of being prejudiced against blacks. According to police the man proceeded to berate the officers. Upon attempting to arrest the man the man again resisted and attempted to spit on at least one of the officers.

After subduing the man and loading him into the squad car, the irate patron continued by telling one of the officers that he would have sex with the officer's daughter in three years – when she turned 18 years old. It is not clear whether the officer has a daughter, and if so, how the man knew that fact. The man was accused of continuing to resist and verbally berate police as he was taken into the station for processing.

The man will face sentencing on March 7.
