Pittsburgh police have charged a Cranberry man with rape, stemming from an incident which occurred at a New Year's party in Oakland.
Police say that the 20 year-old defendants is accused of raping a woman who was attending a house party in the 300 block of Atwood Street on New Year's Eve. The police criminal complaint states that the defendant grabbed the victim by her wrist and led her into an alley behind the house, before raping her at about 12:30 am on New Year's Day.
After the incident, the victim's friend, who corroborated the victim's story, was taken to the scene of the crime by University of Pittsburgh police. There they encountered the accused rapist as he was sitting on the porch. After a brief chase through the home, officers subdued and arrested the man. The friend then identified the man as the rapist.
The accused rapist is currently being held in the Allegheny County Jail on a $100,000 straight cash bond. Charges against the man include rape and giving officers false information about his identity.
